WCGC GO FOR GRAMMAR! PROGRAMME 2026/27

The Go for Grammar! Programme itself consists of a series of themed ‘workshop’ events for Year 5 pupils which take place on Saturdays throughout the academic year. Each workshop contains English and Mathematics sessions covering material that is relevant to 11 Plus examination questions, as well as a range of different workshop themes, run by members of the Westcliff High School for Boys’ teaching staff. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the themed days will take place on:

Saturday 26 September 2026 – Get up and Go!

An action-packed selection of outdoor sporting opportunities in addition to exciting sessions run by cadets from our WHSB Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Army, Navy and RAF sections that are fun and inclusive for participants of all abilities.

Saturday 28 November 2026 – Express It!

Participants will have sessions based in our technology workshops, art studios and language labs, where they will learn and develop their creative and communication skills, using our specialist facilities.

Saturday 6 February 2027 – Bright Sparks!

A series of hands-on practical activities in the School’s science laboratories will introduce participants to the exciting science of chemical reactions in Chemistry, the relationships between matter and energy in Physics, the science of life in Biology, all brought together with a session in Earth Sciences.

The workshops commence at 9.00am and finish at 3.00pm. Children attending will need to bring a packed lunch on the day. To offer as many local Year 5 children as possible the opportunity to attend a workshop, each child will be offered a maximum of two workshop places following receipt of online applications (see below). To attend two sessions, two separate applications must be submitted. Please select your child’s choice of workshop in order of preference when applying. We will do our best to accommodate each child’s preferences.
Places will be offered on a first come first served basis, with priority given to those in receipt of Pupil Premium Funding. If places become available on an additional event, we will make contact to offer a second day. Workshop attendance is priced at £15 per day. There will be no charge to attend for those children in receipt of Pupil Premium Funding.
